  1. You Have an Urge to Go Inside

Looking at new homes is exciting, and when you pull up to the curb, you may look left and then right. Perhaps the house to the left looks far more appealing than the one to the right. First impressions are so important when it comes to choosing a property, and if you have the urge to go inside when you pull up at the curb it’s a very good sign.

  1. You are Embraced by the House Immediately on Entering

You will know within the first few seconds of walking into a house whether it feels comforting and warm or not. Does the house invite you to go and explore? Does it feel warm and homely? Does it seem to speak out to you? If you can say yes to these questions, this house could be the one for you.

  1. You Feel Comfortable in the Bathroom

It is often the case that a buyer starts to feel uncomfortable when approaching the bathroom, even before they go in. They will stop outside, hold onto the doorframe, and have a quick peek for a minute. If on the other hand you feel compelled to go in the bathroom and open the shower door or stroke the marble around the sink, it’s a great sign that this is the home for you.

  1. You Feel Defensive About the Property

You may become defensive when the agent points out a flaw in the property. He may point out a stain on the wooden flooring or something that needs updating. If you get defensive and already see the house as your own, then it’s a great sign. But, keep a clear head and think about how difficult it will be to correct the flaws and more importantly how much the necessary update will cost. You may find that on purchasing the property you find that it is actually impossible to live with the flaws, just as the agent pointed out.

  1. You Start to Think About How your Will Arrange the Furniture

If you walk into the master bedroom and can immediately imagine your bed being in there, this could be the home you have been looking for. If you can imagine your Christmas tree in the corner of the lounge room, it’s safe to say that you are hooked. Perhaps you catch yourself daydreaming about pulling up on the driveway after a hard day at work. You may spot someone in a neighboring property taking their dog for a walk and you start to think about how you would like to get chatting to them when you take your own dog out in the mornings. Remember that the neighbors and the neighborhood are as important as the way you choose to place your furniture.

  1. It Ticks all the Boxes

If the property meets all your basic requirements, it could be the perfect one for you even if it doesn’t have every single amenity on your list. If it has the correct distribution and the right number of rooms it’s a good start. Perhaps it has a carport but not a garage. You realize that having a covered garage is not so important after all and you could build one where the carport is if you really want. If you suddenly become flexible about a property and what it can provide, you may have found the right home for you.

  1. You Don’t Want to Look at More Homes

If all the homes you have previously looked at no longer seem appealing and don’t measure up to this one, it’s a good sign. If you have no desire to carry on looking and the one that was previously on your top spot suddenly doesn’t match up to your standards any more, it’s a fine indication that you have found the right home.

  1. You Want to Brag About it

Have you already posted photos of the home on your social media pages? Have you already called your best friend or sent an email to your mum? Perhaps you have put it as your status on Whatsapp? If you can say yes to any of these, it’s looking very promising that you have found your perfect home.

  1. You Are Already Planning a Second Visit

Did you get in your car, phone your spouse, and then immediately arrange to go back for a second visit before you even left the driveway? If this is the case, then it’s a great sign that this property is for you and that you should definitely come back for a second viewing with your spouse, a friend, or even with your parents. Ask the agent to send you the seller’s disclosures so that you can check that everything is in order. You may even want to put in an offer at this time, as it is really starting to look like you have found the perfect property.

How to Know If a House Is Right for YouWhen you find the property that just feels “right”, it’s not advisable to sleep on it. It’s important to act quickly. Remember that you won’t be the only person looking for a house like the one that you have just fallen in love with and failing to put in an offer could mean losing the house while you are asleep. Trust your instincts, talk to your agent, and act quickly but not in haste.

If you want to act right away, be realistic before getting on the phone to the removal company. Don’t go over your budget to an extent that you won’t live comfortably. And check out the local transport routes for commuting and the schools if you have children or are planning to. Will you get sick of the commute? Are there all the facilities you would hope to find in the neighborhood?

Buying a property is a long-term decision, so be passionate about it, but treat your decision with passion too.
